This cow has been eating and drinking happily from the makankakis well at the monthly dinners put together by the Makansutra forum members. I recently went back to the place where it all first started for me back in 2007- Whampoa (Keng) Fish Head Steamboat Eating house.
Mum and I shared a small pot of Pomfret Fish Head Steamboat ($35). I like their use of charcoal which gave off an alluring aroma. The soup base was very tasty, flavoured with sour plums, herbs like dang gui (angelica root) and ti poh (dried flat fish). The pomfret on that day was quite fresh though not as good as I remember it to be.
Oh yes, and the lovely thick-cut sticks of fried yam were delish! Fragrant, starchy and full of that fried yam flavour. :p
