For some reason I seldom am in Bishan. But for some reason I happened to be there and ended up at RamenPlay for dinner....which was a good thing because it was a surprisingly good dinner.

For starters, the Grilled Salmon Belly with Ponzu Sauce ($8.80 for 2 sticks) was nicely fatty and grilled. Grated radish, a sprinkling of spring onions, salt and a squeeze of lemon made this a tasty snack.

An interesting item that caught my eye was RamenPlay Bamboo Chicken ($6 for 2 sticks). Marinated minced chicken was steamed in a bamboo holder and served with a raw egg yolk. While a little gimmicky, the chicken was smooth in texture, well-marinated and when dipped into the egg yolk, the hot steam from within the chicken cooked the raw yolk leaving a smooth surface coat.

I tried the Sanpou Ramen ($14.80) which comes topped with a piggy trio of pork belly, cheeks and cha shu among other common toppings. I love the pork cheeks! Flavourful and with a tender almost-melt-in-the-mouth feeling. The noodles were sufficiently springy and the tonkotsu broth had small protein precipitates (or fat globules) with plenty of taste.

Add in some fried chopped garlic and chilli paste for added omph. But go easy on the soup though. The saltiness can get to you if you consume copious amounts of the soup.

The Pork Katsu Toji Set ($14.80) was pretty decent- comforting with fried pork cutlet simmering in a light, savoury sauce and topped with beaten egg. Good with plenty of rice and on cold days (yes, we have that now in Singapore).

The drink I opted for was the Super Lemon ($4.80). A chilled concoction of freshly squeezed lemon juice, soda water and shochu. Refreshing with a citrusy fragrance. Don't worry about having this with lunch, the shochu's effect is mild.

jassy: RamenPlay is also available at other locations (Resorts World Sentosa, 313@Somerset & Nex) if that's more convenient for you.

Happy ramen-ing! :)

Visited RamenPlay twice when it first opened at 313 Somerset last year. Didn't recall seeing Grilled Salmon Belly and Bamboo Chicken in the menu then. Was at Junction 8 this afternoon but did not notice this outlet either as you mentioned it is outside the main building. Will certainly visit when in that area again.

soundman: Ah interesting point. Maybe these are new items on their menu. I didn't visit them when they first opened. Yep, they're not bad at all! :)
