Mei Nu suggested a place and it was her first time.......bringing the 2 Da Mo Tous for dinner. What a rarity! Moohehe.
Having ate many happy meals here with her family, Mei Nu suggested this cze char place in Toa Payoh. It apparently was featured in channel 8's Zhu Chao Lai Le.
Mei Nu did the ordering and here's what landed on our table:
The Beancurd with Preserved Vegetables ($7) was fantastic! Soft beancurd with a brown, slightly crisp skin and showered with chai poh (preservd raddish), garlic and spring onions. This and a BIG bowl of rice is bliss.
Salted Egg Squid ($9) was also pretty good with a salted egg yolk crust enveloping the pieces of squid. A tad heavy on the butter though.
The Garlic Pork Ribs (~$9) was one of their specialties. This dish was well-balanced in flavour with just the right level of sweetness and aroma from the slices of garlic. A little like Pork Ribs King, no? Another good with rice dish. Yes, me is a rice pot! :)
For veg, we had the Sweet Potato Leaves with Preserved Beancurd ($5). Simple and tasty.
Overall, cheap and good! Very Singaporean indeed but these two qualities are so in grained into our soul. Now only to get Mei Nu to have liang teh with us....but that's another story for another time.

Chew On This:
Just because our fingers were itchy, we ordered a hor fun as a post-dinner thingy. It was bleah. I realise a lot of cze char places can't do a decent hor fun!
